It was one of those ordinary days that somehow turned out to change your life forever. We met through a mutual friend—a casual introduction that neither of us thought much of at the time. But, as fate would have it, that introduction was anything but ordinary. I still remember the first time we talked. It was so effortless, and it felt like like I’d known him my whole life. He had this presence—calm, steady, and warm—that made it impossible not to feel comfortable.

At first, we were just friends, sharing conversations and moments here and there. But slowly, the connection grew deeper. He became the person I looked forward to hearing from every day, the one who could make me laugh even on my most stressful days. Then one day, something shifted. I realized I wasn’t just looking forward to his texts or calls; I was looking forward to him. And when he confessed that he felt the same, I knew my life had changed forever.

Last year, I had the incredible opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom for my master’s degree. It was a dream come true, but it came with a bittersweet reality: I would be leaving him behind. We had just started building something so precious, and the idea of being miles apart terrified me. I remember crying the night before I left, wondering if this was where our story might end. But he wouldn’t let that happen. The distance didn’t scare him. If anything, it only made him fight harder for what we had. He promised me that no matter how far away I was, he would still be by my side. And he kept that promise.

Every month, without fail, he would fly to see me. The long flights, the cold British winters, and the busy schedules never stopped him. I can still picture the way he’d smile at me as I waited for him at the airport—his face lighting up the moment he saw me. Those visits became my lifeline, the moments I looked forward to the most. He made me believe in love in a way I never had before. And it wasn’t just the visits. Even when we weren’t together, he was there for me in every way that mattered.  Late-night calls, surprise letters, care packages filled with my favorite things—he found ways to make the distance feel smaller.

Here’s how Samuel popped the question:

As my birthday week approached in April, 2024, he told me he had a surprise planned. He handed me a mischievous smile and said, “Pack your bags—and make sure to include a white and blue outfit.” I couldn’t help but laugh at his excitement. I had no idea what he had planned, but I trusted him completely. I packed my things, full of curiosity, and on the morning of my birthday week, we boarded a flight. Hours later, I found myself in one of the most breathtaking places on earth—Santorini, Greece.

From the moment we arrived, it felt like a dream. The iconic whitewashed buildings, the deep blue domes, and the endless expanse of the Aegean Sea—it was like stepping into another world. On the third evening of our trip, he told me to wear the white and blue outfit I had packed. He led me to a private terrace overlooking the caldera, where the sun was beginning to set. The sky turned shades of pink, orange, and gold, casting a magical glow over everything.

He said, “From the moment I met you, I knew you were someone extraordinary. You’ve changed my life in ways I never imagined. I want to spend the rest of my life making you as happy as you’ve made me.” Then, he got down on one knee, holding a ring that sparkled like the Santorini sea behind us. “Will you marry me?” he asked. I couldn’t stop the tears streaming down my face. Through the overwhelming joy, I said, “Yes. A thousand times yes.”
