The Planner’s insight into #FlightDS2021:

Here comes the bride stunning and glowing, and the groom can’t hold his emotions, and their families, and close friends and all lights and glam of Dubai. When we planned a destination wedding of Debrah & Segun in Dubai, we aimed to create a night full of experiences, joy, overflowing emotions and fun.

The Story:

Debrah is a Clinical Research Associate and Segun is a Medical Doctor in Houston, Texas. They decided to go with a destination wedding because it was their desire when they first met and spoke about the kind of wedding they wanted to have. He said Dubai and she was like ‘me too!!’ And that’s how it all started. These two officially met in April 2016, when they were introduced by Segun’s brother. Then started dating on May 18, 2016, after a few months of talking on the phone and then seeing each other face to face. Three years later, Segun popped up the question on Thanksgiving Day 2019 in front of Debrah’s family. After 15 months of planning the wedding with Save The Date, they celebrated their wedding on December 05, 2021. Debrah confirms it was the wedding of their dreams.

About the big day:

The couple simply chose Dubai because of the beautiful places the city offers. It was also the closest country for both families coming from Nigeria the UK and a great vacation spot for guests from the US. When the wedding planner recommended the venue, the couple looked no further and it was decided on The Palace Downtown Hotel.

They went with the breathtaking scenery of Dubai, having an outdoor wedding, complimented with natural soft colours that the venue naturally exuded. Their wedding was special because they could celebrate it with family and dear friends that flew all the way from different countries.

What Debrah and Segun learnt along the way – giving it more patience, as it is required during the planning process. They also constantly reminded themselves that it’s their wedding day, as well as a lifetime happy marriage. Another piece of advice, do your own personal research as the couple, don’t solely rely on others when it comes to making decisions for your day. The most memorable moments of the day was the ceremony and saying vows. Both felt emotional.

On their Outfits:

The couple looked great! The bride went with a ball dress look after she tried five dresses. She found her dress on Instagram, contacted the designer on WhatsApp and was able to pick the top part from another dress and had the designer make it on a ball dress style full lace
skirt to match. The top was so eye-catching and blingy. And that was the dress. She instantly felt it would be the dress of her dreams… and it was! The groom wore a detailed tailored tuxedo in a shawl lapel jacquard  Ivory tuxedo and Black velvet jacket with crystal stone.

The planning went on a distance, we had lots of communication on whats-app and a few zoom calls. Looking at previous wedding ceremonies images helped them to visualize their wedding.
The wedding was attended by 40 fabulous guests. The weather that day was amazing. Not too hot and not too cold.

The first look was exciting, Debrah admits.

Debrah:

I tapped on my husbands’ shoulder, and he turned around and we were both in awe. Our ceremony was religious, as we were joined together by our Pastor that flew in from San Antonio Texas. We repeated our traditional vows from the church RCCG to be exact. At that time no music was being played. My Dad walked me down the aisle!!! The song that played was Hosanna by Israel Houghton”. The song that played during your recessional was “Can’t stop the feeling” by Justin Timberlake. The cocktail hour took place under a beautiful gazebo right after the ceremony. Delicious bite-sized appetizers were served along with the couple’s signature drink. The overall setup was beautifully done by our wedding planner. The first dance song was “The vow, by Timi Dakolo”. The words of the song are literally our story.

Now let the ceremony begin…

Sealed with a kiss!

It’s reception/ after-party time!
