Over the years, Cupid has proven to be an expert in creating the most perfect fairytales in the most unexpected situations. Desire reluctantly attended a friend’s birthday party… little did she know she was going to find her soulmate, Ekene.

Amidst the bubbling crowd, Desire sat quietly, glued to her phone screen. Yet, her silence made a loud impression on Ekene. He could not stop thinking about her and got her contact from a mutual friend. They clicked instantly after the first phone call and a beautiful love journey ensued.

Now, it’s love in the air as they exchanged their vows in a lovely white wedding ceremony. They look absolutely stunning and their sweet love was evident in every frame. Shortly after, they had a colourful Ikwerre-Igbo trad where they repped their culture to the fullest. They make such a beautiful couple and their wedding photos will make you smile.

I attended a mutual friend’s birthday party in July 2022. I was under the weather and certainly wasn’t in the best state of mind, but I knew I had to show up for a good friend. I got to the venue so late and the party was almost over. I said hello to the birthday boy and he showed me to my seat. At this point, I didn’t even notice anyone. I had my head down with my phone in my hands the whole time, saving ‘Men are scum’ memes to post. Fast forward to February 2023, my friend reached out and said someone had requested my contact since his birthday, but he was taking his time to be sure this friend of his was serious before reaching out to me, and that he had given him a task to call him three days consecutively to plead for my contact and if he misses a day he’ll have to start all over again. I had a good laugh and told him I wasn’t in the right frame of mind for relationship talks as all I wanted to do was focus on myself, do better and be better.

Desire came through looking radiant

He insisted he was a great guy and there would be no regrets and so I agreed. A few days later, he called and we spoke for a really long time. The best part of it was he didn’t have to say too much or try so hard to impress, he was effortlessly engaging that it felt like we had known each other for years. He was in a different city at the time so we made plans to meet whenever he came into town. The first time we met, he asked me to be his girlfriend and that he just wasn’t proposing marriage yet because he didn’t want me to freak out, but from the first day he saw me he knew what he wanted and only decided to take his time, and also let me enjoy my last year as a Single Pringle (The audacity Lol). I thought it was too soon and was sceptical, I spoke to my brother about this and all he asked was if I was at PEACE, that truly was all the conviction I needed. I might just have met him but he sure ticked all the boxes. We became inseparable in such a short while, and five months later on his birthday in June 2023, he popped the question and I said ‘YES’ in a heartbeat.
