Love is such a powerful force and not even time or distance can stop it. Mariam and Ayo were just two teenagers who crossed paths in church 13 years ago.
Years passed and they lost touch… not until a DM from Ayo reignited the sparks of an old teenage crush. They went from having their first date to falling head over heels in love and now, they are on a sweet journey for a life time. Today we get to see a glimpse of their endearing love through the lens of their pre-wedding photos. Their chemistry is hard to miss and each frame tells a story of the unwavering power of love. 😍

Their love story as shared by Mariam:
Ayo and I have a history spanning over thirteen years. We first spotted each other as teenagers in Jesus Charter Ibadan. Although we maintained a very distant connection through social media platforms, it wasn’t until December 27, 2019, when Ayo slid into my DM during his visit to Nigeria for his brother’s wedding, that our relationship took a more tangible form. I eagerly responded as his name and face looked familiar (though a lot more handsome than I could remember). We officially exchanged contacts and went on our first date on the 1st of January 2020 at Golden Tulip restaurant. We had lunch, reminisced about the old days and had a remarkable time catching up.
We maintained our beautiful friendship even after he returned to the United Kingdom after his holiday in January 2020, at the time I recently started working in Nigeria as a Lawyer and I remember how proud he’d get whenever I sent him my daily “come to work with me” videos on Snapchat lol. We started dating April 2020 after he asked me to be his girlfriend and I agreed obviously, as I became extremely fond of him. Prior to dating, we slowly became best friends who opened up to each other about everything, including our families, careers and future plans. We fell deeply in love with each other and our love grew deeper over the years. My husband and I have a lot of common interests such as our love for God, fashion, movies, FOOD and love for family.
Distance tested our relationship as Ayo lived in London and I in Lagos, to make this even worse, the COVID-19 pandemic put the whole world on hold for longer than we anticipated, which meant we couldn’t visit each other in the first few months of our relationship. This became a bigger challenge, but we made the most of the situation by organising virtual dates, movie nights and game nights. It took a lot of dedication and effort, but all of these helped to strengthen our communication and relationship further while we were away from each other. I eventually moved to the UK in December 2020 to further my Masters in Law and this was a major highlight for me, as you can imagine I was very much looking forward to being closer to my baby after what seemed like forever.
Ayo and I maintained communication during my isolation and he kept me entertained at every point, he did everything in his power to make me the most comfortable I could be regardless of the very strict restrictions. (A very intentional man 🥰). After the lockdown started to ease, we went on countless dates, had our first “Baecation” 😀 just to makeup for time spent apart. This in-fact made our love stronger than it had ever been. On September 15, 2023, Ayo proposed in the most beautiful way, and I without a doubt, I said “YES.” Our journey from a teenage crush to a lifetime commitment is a testament to our enduring love. Ayo is my peace and my joy, making our love effortless and special. What started as a simple connection has blossomed into a lifetime of happiness and we wouldn’t have it any other way. 🤍
