Want to get out of the friend zone into the forever zone? Maybe we should ask Jerry how he did it! 😅 Today, we’re drooling over the beautiful love that Tola and Jerry share as they sail beautifully into forever.
The two were introduced by a mutual friend. If you’re thinking that this is where we pause to shout out to friends who play Cupid, you’re absolutely right! 😅 Thanks to this mutual friend, Tola and Jerry are well on their way into forever and of course, we’re super stoked for them.

Their love story as shared by Tola:
A mutual friend introduced us when I was in Nigeria and Jerry was in the U.S. We didn’t talk much but stayed in touch on Facebook until I came to the U.S for school. We became super close, and we were best friends. We would call each other every day and stay on the phone for hours when we talked. Jerry wanted a relationship but he was in the friend zone for a while because I wasn’t interested in a relationship at that time. Jerry was in Chicago, and I was in Missouri. It’s a 5-6 hour drive but we couldn’t meet because we both had school and work. A year later we planned and fixed a date for Jerry to come to see me. I had already made plans and set up a ‘to-do list’ for when he came but a few days before he was supposed to arrive, we had an argument and it all went south from there. He didn’t come.
We went from talking every day to barely talking at all and then we stopped communicating. Fast forward to a year after, I woke up one morning to a message from Jerry asking us to be friends again. He was begging to be my friend again. Lol, just kidding. We immediately reconnected and things went smoothly from there. We were in a long-distance relationship for about 3 years and we tried to see each other as often as work and school permitted.
Here’s how Jerry popped the big question:
He asked me to marry him in the most intimate way and I loved it! In December 2018, he came to visit. We went for date night and during our time out he was so unsettled and restless. He kept talking to himself and sweating lol. We had to leave dinner early because I was getting uncomfortable. When we got back home, I opened my door and there were balloons and flowers everywhere. He asked me to marry him and I said yes! In 2019 we legally married in San Diego, California and in January 2022 we celebrated our wedding traditionally with our families and friends.
